Miscellaneous Graduation Information
- There is NO SAFE PLACE to leave cell phones, purses, etc. during the commencement. Therefore, leave valuables including keys with your parents or at home.
- The rehearsal will begin on time and is required for students intending to participate in the graduation ceremony. You must pay your fines before you rehearse.
- For rehearsal, bring yourself. For graduation, bring your gown, hat, tassel, and any honor cords. You do not need anything else. Please do not bring any other items such as gifts, cards, flowers, or water bottles as there will be no place to put them while you are marching in.
- Be at the The Ranch and in your graduation lines 1 hour earlier on the day of the ceremony.
- You have purchased your cap and tassel, but you will need to turn in your gown in order to pick up your diploma.
- Do not bring any items to the graduation ceremony that may be used to disrupt the proceedings. Upon entering the Event Center you may be searched for items that could be used for disrupting the proceedings. “Items” refers to any device or product that can be used to disrupt or interfere with the proceedings. If graduates are discovered having such item before or during the ceremony, their diploma will be withheld. Police will be on duty.
- Do not put anything on your graduation cap.
- Parents and family photographers will not be allowed on the floor or behind the guest platform to take pictures until the ceremony has concluded. There will be a designated area in the arena for family photographers.
- You will need to turn in your gown and pick up your diploma after the ceremony. We suggest taking your cap and gown pictures at home or arriving at The Ranch early as the gowns will need to be returned immediately after the ceremony.
From the ACT website: No Time to Slump, Seniors
Once you have a college offer in hand, you may get the urge to coast through the rest of the school year, or maybe you’ve already decided to slack off. It’s your senior year and you deserve it, right? Before you give in to senior slump, you should know that the college may be watching you.
Colleges, especially selective universities, have been known to withdraw offers of admission to students who drop college prep classes or begin earning uncharacteristically low grades. If you’ve slumped, but not too far, colleges might send you a warning letter and add certain stipulations to your admission, such as requiring a 2.0 grade point average during the first year of college. Taking an extended breather during your senior year can make your freshman year in college difficult. So have fun your senior year, but don’t give up on your college preparation. Study hard!
